Fire alarm and emergency lighting questions
Do I need a fire alarm system?
Most commercial premises, HMOs, blocks of flats and holiday lets need some form of fire detection. The type and grade of system should follow your fire risk assessment. If you don’t have one, we can point you to a fire risk assessor, then design the system to match.
How much does fire alarm servicing cost?
Our Fire Safety Service is £250 + VAT per visit for typical small and medium systems, and it includes emergency lighting testing. Most sites need two visits a year, so £500 + VAT. Larger systems are quoted after we check the panel, devices and fittings.
How often does a fire alarm need servicing?
BS 5839 recommends a service by a competent person at least every six months, plus a weekly call point test by the responsible person on site. We keep the logbook up to date and label the panel with the next service date.
How often should emergency lighting be tested?
BS 5266 calls for a short functional test every month and a full-duration test once a year, usually three hours. We carry out the annual test, fix any failed fittings and issue the certificate.
Can you take over servicing of an existing system?
Yes. We service most conventional and addressable panels. If the system has faults or gaps, we report them clearly and price the fix.
Are you BAFE registered?
Yes. BAFE registration means our fire safety work is independently assessed. We’re also NAPIT approved and have been trading for over 20 years.
